DAY 02
09:00hrs – Guided Falls Tour & Village Tour

The falls are one of the most spectacular site in the world, hence their inclusion in the World Heritage list in 1989. The view of the falls from the Zambian side is the most spectacular, and obviously warrants its designation as one of the seven wonders of the world.

The falls were named after the “Queen of England Victoria” by the first white man to view them, the Scottish explorer and missionary Dr. Dave Livingstone, who on his first visit wrote “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by Angels in their flight.”

The Local people – the Leyas – called the falls “Shungu Namutitima” which means “Smoke that Thunders”. The Kololos called it “Musi oa Tunya”.

The falls are 1,700meters wide with a vertical drop of 100meters. The volume of water cascading into the chasm at the height of the rainy season is nine million litres a second.

There is a paved path leading onto the Knife Edge bridge for a spectacular view up the main gorge and the Eastern Cataract. One can also take a walk down to the Boiling Pot through the rain forest, where steps lead down to the end of the previous fall-line to the bank of the whirlpool, where the Zambezi sweeps from the foot of the falls into the first stretch of the Batoka Gorge. This view gives an interesting perspective from the base of the falls and of the impressive Victoria Falls bridge above the gorge. After the falls tour disembark on your vehicle and
Continue to Mukuni village – founded as Gundu in the 13th century, and later named after the ruler (Mukuni) on arrival from the Congo. It is home to the Leya people. This tour presents an opportunity to see how the local people live in a real African village. It has a population of 7,000, a clinic, basic school and boreholes for drinking water. Clients see how huts are built and decorated, meet residents and see the locals at work creating curios. After the tour you will be transferred back to the hotel.

PM – Game Drive

15:00HRS: Duration 2.5 hours. Minimum 2 pax – Rhino Safari
Musi-oa-Tunya National Park is a wildlife sanctuary on the banks of the Zambezi River and it is the only part among the 19 in Zambia which is fenced. It is 20 kms square, and gives clients the opportunity to view and photograph animals at close range. It boasts 3 white rhino, various antelope, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, kudu, waterbuck, warthog and zebra. There is beautiful riverine vegetation and stunning views across the Zambezi River.
